ISO14001:2026 was published on April 15, 2026. This publication started the 36-month transition period. Organizations certified to ISO 14001:2015 need to be re-certified by April 14, 2029 to the 2026 version if they wish to maintain their ISO14001 certification.

Changes were made with the intent to integrate organizations’ environmental management systems more into their business processes. Key changes include :

• Clearer requirements on documented information
• Increased attention on environmental implications of organizations’ supply chain
• Use of a life-cycle approach to reinforce environmental protection
• Wider application of environmental conditions affecting the organization
