On 12th January 2026, the HEALTH INFORMATION ACT was passed by the Parliament.

The Act aims to provide for a national electronic records system for the safe and secure contribution, collection, storage and disclosure of health information about individuals, to facilitate the collection, disclosure and use of health and other information about individuals to maintain and improve their physical and mental health and wellbeing, and to make a related amendment to the Human Organ Transplant Act 1987.

This Act will come into operation on a date that the Minister appoints by notification in the Gazette.
